Being Black always raises trivia in every aspect of life especially being a minority state. But the world has changed now, and that is why when we see a colored person capturing the spotlight; we are nothing but proud of them.
Over the years there have been a lot of black female models that ripped the cliché’s and introduced diversity to the fashion industry and that for all a good cause. To celebrate the same black beauty, here we putting some of the amazing models that are changing the face of the fashion industry.

Tyra Banks is one of the most iconic black models of the fashion industry. She started modeling when she was 14 and in a very little amount of time, she achieved the heights that no one could ever achieve.
You must have seen her in the most iconic swimsuit snaps for the #swimsuitIconChallange and everyone loved them. In fact, her fans tried to recreate the same poses and of course, those snaps helped them gain the confidence to flaunt their bodies in a bikini.

With 9.9 Million followers on Instagram, Naomi Campbell is definitely rocking the world of Black models.
She started her career by appearing in the music videos of Bob Marley and Culture Club. Then she joined the modeling industry when she was just 15 and after that things started to work out pretty quickly. Before she was even 16 she appeared on the cover of Elle. She is also the first black model to appear on the cover of British and French Vogue.
Of course, she received racial discrimination from her people but her friends and colleagues were always there to support her.
Leomie Anderson
Leomie is the rising face of the new dream. She is a model and Ex Victoria’s Secret angel. She also manages an athletic brand called Lapp that provides salaries of bloggers behind the Lap.
She works for the support of women empowerment by collaborating with Google, Kiehls, and Nike. She has been an inspirational icon for women of every field.
Halima Aden
Halima is the face of the modest fashion of our industry. She is the first Hijab-wearing model of the industry. She had to go through a lot of controversies while achieving what she has now. She had to deal with racism and Islam phobia at the same time.
She was born in a refugee camp and she was 7 when her parents moved to the United States from Kenya. She was the first hijab-wearing; homecoming Queen, Student Senator, and Miss USA Minnesota.
Now after the Quarantine, she declared that she will be leaving the Fashion industry for a better cause and we respect that after she has done so much to represent the modest form of Fashion.
Paloma Elsesser
Paloma Elsesser is the plus size, black female model. She is changing fashion for a better cause. Her participation isn’t just about her but about all the women who think that they are not good enough for the world because they don’t fill in the traditional beauty standards.
She is discovered by IMG models and since then she is been to a lot of Fashion weeks and has collaborated with makeup brands and beachwear brands. Seems like she a lot on her plate and by that she is changing the direction of beauty standards in every genre of Fashion.
Joan Smalls
With 3.6 Million followers on Instagram Joan Smalls is one of the beauties of black models. Joan is a Puerto Rican model who started her career in 2010. She has walked on the ramp of Givenchy Couture.
She has also worked for some of the most Iconic brands like Burberry, Alexandra Wang, Fendi, and Victoria’s Secret show. She is been a cover girl for a series of popular magazines like Ralph Lauren, Tiffany’s, and Giambattista Valli.
Besides the modeling career, she has his hope of creating ease in the refuge community and she does by involvement in some nonprofit foundations that help refugees. One of them is called Jeans for Refugees.

Maria is an Angolan Model with over 1 Million Instagram followers. She is the first Black model that was allowed to wear her natural hair the way they were. Well, it was just a start to accept something big and beautiful by the fashion industry.
After that many of the models lined up to flaunt their hair that represented their beautiful culture and traditions. This made people realize that Fashion is not just about a specific sect but to represent the beautiful colors from all around the world.
Beverly Johnson
Beverly Johnson is the first Black woman who was stared on the cover of Vogue magazine In 1974.
She is one of the black models that have stirred the pot of fashion industry by opening about the lack of diversity in it.
She was recently under the spotlight when she shared her assault stories with a magazine. She was drugged by the icon of that time, Bill Cosby.
Grace Jones
Grace Jones is the fearless pop icon that has been breaking the beauty molds since the beginning. Jones is a 72-year fashion icon who is the master of her own rhythm.
She shaved off her hair free herself from the ties of a specific race, sect, tribe, and sex.
Her most divine quote that defends this act is ‘’ I was Black, but not Black; women, but not women’’.
Naomi Sims
Naomi Sims is the first black model who appeared in the lifestyle magazines like Ladies’ Home Journal and the 1969 issue of Life.
After these projects, her career started to take off really quickly. She also started her own Wig and hairpiece business. In August 2009 she passed away while fighting for cancer. Everyone will remember her for paving the way for black models in the fashion industry.
