Erin was born on May 4, 1978, in Lewiston, Maine, to parents Steven and Paula Andrews. Her mother is a teacher, while her father is a six-time Emmy Award-winning television journalist.
When she was five years old, her family moved to San Antonio, and about a year and a half later, they relocated to Valrico, Florida.
Her father secured a job as an investigative reporter for the NBC affiliate WFLA-TV news channel.
Besides Erin, the Andrews family includes another daughter, Kendra, who is a professional dancer and actress.

In 2008, Erin Andrews was secretly filmed through a peephole at the Nashville Marriott near Vanderbilt University and later at the Radisson Airport Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by Michael David Barrett, a former insurance executive from the Chicago area.
One of these videos, which showed her fully nude in her hotel room, was released online on July 16, 2009. The video quickly went viral, leading to Barrett’s arrest by the FBI on October 2. He pleaded guilty to interstate stalking charges on December 15.
Authorities discovered another video on Barrett’s hard drive that was never made public. On March 15, 2010, U.S. District Judge Manuel sentenced Barrett to two and a half years in prison, supervised probation for nearly three years after release, a $5,000 fine, and $7,366 in restitution.
In October 2015, Andrews filed a civil lawsuit against Barrett and the Nashville Marriott for $75 million. The trial began in late February 2016 and concluded on March 7, with the jury awarding her $55 million in damages.
