The details of how Elizabeth Arnett and John Marvin Murdaugh came to know each other remain uncertain, but their engagement became known to the public in 2007.
They also disclosed that they had scheduled their wedding on March 29, 2008, at the First Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg.
Dr. David Alistair Renwick from Spartanburg, SC, and Reverend John Wesley Culp from Columbia, SC, officiated the couple’s wedding. The Piedmont Club hosted the wedding reception.
During the ceremony, Randolph Murdaugh III, John’s father, served as the best man, while Randolph Murdaugh IV and Richard Alexander (Alex) Murdaugh, the groom’s brothers, acted as groomsmen.
Mrs. Samuel Baylis Shackelford II directed the wedding, and Alice Tillotson Ratterree, Marcia Craft Andrews, Peter Alen Moore, Daniel Lee Kirsop, and Marsha Perrin Hood provided the music.
After their Costa Rican trip, the couple relocated to Okatie, South Carolina. They now have three children: Mary Marvin Murdaugh, Liza Grace Murdaugh, and Randolph Murdaugh V.
As of 2023, Mary Marvin turned 13, Randolph celebrated his 8th birthday, and Liza Grace turned 13 in January 2023. Elizabeth Arnett’s birthdate is December 1975, making her 47 years old.

Elizabeth Arnett’s parents are Mary Curlee Arnett and Dr. Marion Lee Arnett, Jr., MD. Mary graduated from J.L. Mann High School in 1967 and attended Converse College. Her grandparents were Marion Lee Arnett, Sr. and Evelyn Goodwin Arnett from Spartanburg.
Elizabeth Arnett’s Education
Elizabeth Arnett holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and History from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia.
Before her current position, she worked as a landscape designer at Davis Landscape in Hilton Head.
Elizabeth Arnett’s Husband
Elizabeth Arnett’s husband, John, the youngest of four children born to Elizabeth “Libby” Alexander and Randolph Murdaugh III, was born on October 26th, 1970.
He was raised in a large, comfortable, stable household in Hampton County and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.
John owns two companies: Murdaugh Rentals, Inc. of the Low Country and Murdaugh Kubota, Inc. of Hampton, South Carolina.
