Jillian Michaels’ Spinal Injury & Healing Journey
Celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels had to tap into new forms of strength after a slip-and-fall accident in the spring of 2021. The former Biggest Loser trainer posted old content on social sites to keep the injury from getting out because she wasn’t sure she would get better.
Michaels shared exclusively from her Florida home that the accident wasn’t preventable, and it was like slipping on a banana peel.
Michaels, known for her tough girl mentality, had slipped and hit the bathtub’s edge with her back while walking into the bathroom to get her wife DeShana Marie Minuto’s attention.
Michaels initially thought she was okay, but after 6 weeks of aggravating lower back pain, Michaels found herself incapable of getting out of the automobile to spread with her family one evening. At that moment, she felt “a lightning bolt down my leg.”
After that, Michaels was sent to the emergency room by her wife. She couldn’t force herself correctly to get her body scanned because she was so crippled by pain.
Doctors verified they could see some “nerve impingement” and sent her home with hurt meds, but she persisted in worsening. Michaels couldn’t rest because the discomfort at night was so bad. She couldn’t walk, sleep, or stand and crawled on the ground. She thought to herself, “My life is over.”
Michaels and Minuto have been together since 2018 and married in Namibia in 2022. Michaels has two children, Lukensia Michaels Rhoades, 13, and Phoenix Michaels Rhoades, 10. Despite the accident, Michaels has been able to bounce back, and her fans are excited to see her back in action.
