Arizona Athletics and the University of Arizona mourn former student-athlete, Ty Wells. Ty was an exceptional diver and swimmer who represented Arizona between 2018 to 2022.
In May 2022, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in medical sciences and psychology. On January 27th, 2023, he died.
The campus community offers Ty’s relatives, friends, colleagues, students, and coworkers its sincere condolences.
Ty was a bright star that left a lasting impression on everyone he interacted with.
Vp and Manager of Athletics Dave Heeke sent his condolences and added, “Ty was a fantastic young man who brought a lot of brightness into the lives of everyone who knew him. During this trying time, we will remember him as well as his dear ones.”

Former student-athlete of the University of Arizona, Ty Wells, was a superstar inside and outside the water.
Ty obtained his Bachelor of Science in Medical Sciences and Physiology in May 2022 after participating in the Arizona Swimming and Diving program for four years.
Ty was a gifted swimmer who frequently recorded NCAA B cut numbers while a Wildcat. He concluded his career at the Pac-12 Men’s Championships in 2021–2022, setting three career-best marks.
Ty received the honor of being named a CSCAA Scholar All-American during his senior year in appreciation of his academic accomplishments.
Ty was a leader among his classmates in contrast to his achievements in sports and academia. He represented his colleagues on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board.
Ty wanted to work in physiotherapy or exercise science because he loved helping people. The Institution of Arizona and Arizona Sports express their sorrow on the passing of this extraordinary young man.
