Darius Miles, a basketball player for the University of Alabama, was detained and suspected of murder in conjunction with a gunshot near the university on Sunday that reportedly left a 23-year-old woman killed, according to Tuscaloosa law officials.
According to the researchers, Miles is the sole party implicated with ties to Alabama State University.
Media was unable to ascertain whether the counsel represented the suspects.
Following a statement from the violent crimes section, when police arrived at the scene of the incident at 1:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, they discovered that Jamea Jonae Harris was already shot and murdered while riding in a car or less 1⁄2 a mile from of the university’s campus.
According to authorities, one of the defendants was wounded by the retaliatory gunfire but not in a life-threatening manner.
According to Harris’ mother, DeCarla Cotton, who lives in Birmingham, Harris traveled to Tuscaloosa alongside her boyfriend to see her cousin, who attends the university.

Harris’ boyfriend informed the mother that a man came to Harris and began flirting with her while the party had paused to buy something to eat.
“He was approaching her, but she ignored him. He resisted leaving,” Cotton said.
Cotton claimed that when the group attempted to flee, a man approached the car and opened fire. She claimed Harris’s boyfriend fired back, striking one of the accused.
Attorneys representing Miles claim in answers that he and his relatives are “heartbroken” by Harris’ passing.
“Although Darius has been charged with involvement in this tragedy, he insists on his guilt and eagerly awaits his day in court. It said that no other statements would be issued during our company’s ongoing inquiry.”
The institution and the athletics administration have stated they are helping with the probe.
Following a roster from the men’s basketball team’s past, Miles, 21, is indeed a junior just at university and hails from Washington, DC.
According to the roster record, Miles was a forward for the Alabama Crimson Tide during his third season when he was dismissed from the squad.
Harris’s mother says that her family prefers to remember her for just how she lived her days rather than the manner of her passing.
She didn’t cause any issues. She was a dedicated mother who rose early each day to care for her son, Cotton remarked.
She continued by saying that she was now hosting Harris’ 5-year-old son.
She said, “I haven’t gotten the words to tell him this yet.”
