After the capture of the son of renowned Mexican drug lord “El Chapo,” confrontations in the region of Sinaloa resulted in the deaths of three security personnel.
Ovidio Guzmán-López was apprehended in Culiacán and brought to Mexico City. He is considered the current commander of his father’s former cartel.
Enraged gang members stormed a nearby airport, blocked roads, and set cars on fire.
Gunfire struck two aircraft, one of which was about to take off.
Three airports in Sinaloa saw the cancellation of more than 100 flights.
According to the state governor, eight persons were admitted to the hospital.
His father, Joaqun “El Chapo” Guzmán, was convicted of drug smuggling and money laundering in 2019 and is currently receiving a life term in the US.
During his trial, several gruesome details of the Mexican drug gangs’ operations were made public.
US officials supported the six-month monitoring effort to apprehend Mr. Guzmán-López, said Defence Minister Sandoval.

Social media videos depict burning buses obstructing traffic in Culiacan.
Gunfire struck the cabin of a jet Thursday morning as it was getting ready to take off from Culiacán to Mexico City, according to Mexican airline Aeromexico.
It claimed that no clients or staff members had suffered an injury. In what looks to be a social media video, passengers can be seen hunched down and trembling in their seats.
Mr. Guzmán-López was previously detained by Mexican security agents in 2019 but was later freed due to the danger of bloodshed from his followers.
According to the US Department Of State, he and his brother Joaqun are currently in charge of eleven methamphetamine production facilities in Sinaloa that produce 1,300 to 2,200 kilograms (3,000 to 5,000 pounds) of the drug each month.
The US offered a reward of up to $5 million (£4.2 million) in December for intelligence that would result in the capture and conviction of Mr. Guzmán-López and three of his brothers, who are believed to have retained their positions of authority within the gang.
