The idea didn’t impress us when the Super Mario movie was first announced. We thought that video game movie adaptations were still risky, and Mario’s lack of narrative depth made translating to the big screen difficult.
Even the casting of Anya Taylor-Joy did little to excite us. However, as more footage was released, we became more convinced.
We defended Chris Pratt’s accent, and while some parts of the movie’s humor seems geared toward children, it captured the warmth of Mario and the charm of the Super Mario universe. We was invested in the movie but worried about being disappointed.
Our disappointment came when the latest trailer was released, and it became apparent that Princess Daisy, our favorite Mario character, had been shut out of the Super Mario Bros Movie.
This was particularly disappointing given that other, lesser-known characters like Kamek were included, and there was celebrity casting for Toad.
Daisy had always brought more personality to the Mario universe, and her absence felt like a missed opportunity.
When the Sand Kingdom was revealed in the latest trailer, we briefly thought it might be a hint that Daisy was included in the movie.
The Sand Kingdom Reminded Us Of Sarasaland
The Sand Kingdom reminded us of Sarasaland, the kingdom Daisy rules over in the games, which we rarely see.
Unfortunately, it turned out that the Sand Kingdom was just a creatively named location from Super Mario Odyssey, and Daisy was not part of the movie.
We are disappointed that Daisy, a core part of the Mario universe, was not included in the Super Mario Bros Movie.
She has been relegated to party and sports titles, with even that not guaranteed after missing out on the title of the most recent sport.
We hope that she might be saved for a surprise appearance in the end credits or that she will be a central character in a future movie.
The sequel could be set in Sarasaland, with someone like Florence Pugh playing Daisy. Daisy is an important part of the Mario universe and has been disrespected for too long.
