We all know that when Rose Bundy was born, his father was on death row but no one knows about her early life, academic career, or current status.
After the release of The Ted Bundy Tapes documentary series on Netflix and a thriller starring Zac Efron as the renowned sociopath, he became a topic of discussion for the whole world.
It was quite bizarre that a man who killed several women including a child became a father of a girl himself.

All Facts About Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert Bundy was born on November 24, 1946, in Burlington, Vermont, U.S. He is known as a Serial Killer who kidnapped, rapped, and murdered several young women in the 1970s.
Although the actual number of his criminal assaults is still not known, people argue that it reached a three-digit number. His criminal acts were petrifying and over one’s head.
He used to appear as an innocent and attractive young man in front of ladies. Mostly, he approached the parks and public places and kept his eyes on beautiful women before making them unconscious.
After that, he took them to a secondary location where he raped and strangled them. He brutally beheaded several bodies and even kept many heads at his residence as souvenirs.
Not only that, he used to revisit the dead body and performed sexual acts before it got decomposed by other creatures. On some occasions, he attacked his victims while they were sleeping.
Ted Bundy And Carole Ann Bonne’s Relationship
After sexually abusing and assassinating a number of women, Bundy fell in love with a colleague at the Washington State Department of Emergency Services.
According to her co-workers, Carole Ann Boone was a well-educated, highly patient, and well-determined woman. She had a motherly personality and used to assist everyone in the workplace
At that time Bonne was divorced and had a son named James. She was working passionately despite her personal crisis. As soon as Bundy joined the Washington State Department of Emergency Services, Boone started falling for him.
Bundy showed his charismatic personality and behaved as an introverted guy to his fellows. He tried to approach Bonne, who was already awaiting a trustful relationship after separation from her previous husband.
In no time they both started dating each other. In the beginning, it was just a good friendship that later changed into mad love.
At that time Bundy was also in a relationship with Elizabeth Kloepfer who was divorced and had a daughter Molly. It is said that she was one of those several women who were dated and eventually killed by Bundy
Ted Bundy’s Arrest
In 1975, Bundy was found to be guilty of criminal acts in Granger, Utah. When the investigators of Washington, Colorado, and Utah collaborated on various murders of having the same nature, they convicted Bundy as a vicious killer.
Bundy acted as his own legal attorney during his trial at Orlando for the killing of Chi Omega sorority girls Margaret Bowman and Lisa Levy in 1980.
Boone used to attend all his trials and even supported him as a witness. She also acted as a character witness during Bundy’s trial in Florida in 1979. Bundy was finding it difficult to travel for long hours to meet Bundy so she got shifted to Gainsville which was 40 miles away from the prison.
The soon mother-to-be, Boone was madly in love with the horrendous murderer and even managed to smuggle drugs and weapons to his prisoner boyfriend. She also helped Bundy to escape from the jail twice but he was recaptured in 1978.
How Rose Bundy’s Parents Got Married During A Trial?
After assisting Bundy in his trials the couple drove closer to each other. Finally, they decided to get married but unfortunately, the judge prohibited that.
But having studied law, Bundy used a dubious law for fulfilling his dream. During his trial for murdering a 12-year-old girl, Kimberly Leach on 9 February 1980, he purposely called Boone to the witness stand and bluntly proposed to her.
Boone said ‘YES’ and they got officially married in court. After two days of their marriage, Bundy was sentenced to death.
Boone surprisingly got pregnant and the people started making controversies about how Bundy impregnated his wife during the sentence.
Although it was clear that conjugal visits were strictly forbidden at the prison, somehow the prisoners managed to bribe the guards to meet female visitors in privacy. A superintendent at Florida State Prison Clayton Strickland said,
Anything is possible, where the human element is involved, anything is possible. They’re subject to do anything. I’m not saying they couldn’t have some sexual contact, but in that park, it would be mighty difficult. It’s stopped as soon as it starts.
People exaggerated Bonnes’ conception and came up with different ideas about how the couple found a secure place to get that close in a prison. However, there were a lot of rooms in the jail where people seldom go and also an outdoor park for prisoners.
Another controversy is that Boone passed a condom to her husband, in which he preserved his genetic material and forwarded it to Boone via a kiss.
In no time, the news spread as fire and media rushed towards Boone to discover when, how, and why she conceived a child from a person who has gruesomely raped, strangled, and killed several women.
“I don’t have to explain anything about anyone to anybody,” she said.
Birth Of Rose Bundy
On death row, Ted Bundy became a father for the first time. Of course, it was a moment of joy for him but for the world, it was bizarre.
He had been the father of his girlfriend’s daughter and Boone’s son but Rosa was his first biological child. She was born on Oct 24, 1982.
After the birth of his daughter, Bundy became even more famous and his trials were heavily telecasted on media platforms. Most of the spectators were young women with long hair.
Stephen G. Michaud in the True Hollywood Story on Ted Bundy told that
There was an assumption about Ted’s victims: that they all wore their hair long, parted in the middle, and wore hoop earrings so, women would come to court with their hair parted in the middle, wearing hoop earrings. A couple of them even dyed their hair the right kind of brown…They wanted to appeal to Ted.
Bonne always brought Rosa to the prison and there are many pictures of the small family which was built on death row.
Rose Bundy’s Parents Parted their Ways
In 1986, Bundy was ordered to be assassinated and he was prohibited to meet anyone. This saddened Rose and even before that there was a sudden change in her behavior towards her father.
She started throwing tantrums and refused to get close to Bundy. Maybe that was a sign for Boone that their relationship cannot go any further. She divorced Bundy three years before his execution.
Ted Bundy’s Assassination
Finally, the Serial Killer got what he deserved for brutally killing thousands of innocent women including a child. He was executed at Florida State Prison in Raiford on January 24, 1989.
Biographer Ann Rule described him as “a sadistic sociopath who took pleasure from another human’s pain and the control he had over his victims, to the point of death, and even after.”
He also described that “he was the most cold-hearted son of a bitch you’ll ever meet”. Attorney Polly Nelson, a member of his last defense team, agreed and commented “Ted, was the very definition of heartless evil”.
What happened To Rose Bundy And Her Mother?
After parting ways from his murderer husband, Boone purposely vanished somewhere in Florida. It is evident that she was conscious of all the possible complications that would come across her daughter if she remained in the limelight. He left her husband for the sake of her daughter and started a new life.
Some people say that she changed her name to Abigail Griffin and remarried in Oklahoma. However, there is nothing known about Rose Bundy. Her childhood, her school, her friends, her career—everything is a mystery.
Author Anne Rule wrote a book in 2008 named “A stranger beside me” in which she told that,
I have heard that Ted’s daughter is a kind and intelligent young woman but I have no idea where she and her mother may live, they have been through enough pain. Also, I have deliberately avoided knowing anything about Ted’s ex-wife and daughter’s whereabouts because they deserve privacy. I don’t want to know where they are; I never want to be caught off guard by some reporter’s question about them. All I know is that Ted’s daughter has grown up to be a fine young woman.
Some media reports say that Rosa and her mother live in Washington and Boone has retired in 2018. Another speculation is that Rose Bundy is still alive and living happily with her three kids somewhere in the world. She changed her name and is hiding her identity because of her father’s criminal acts.
However, Rosa and her father are still a topic of discussion and a center of attention for the public. Many documentaries and movies have been made on this unusual small family and some of these are
- Ted Bundy (2002)
- Extremely Wicked
- Fry Day (2017)
- Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019)
- The Only Living Witness (Stephen G. Michaud, 1993)
- The Stranger Beside Me (Anne Rule, 1980)
