Jared Fogle Early Life
Jared Fogle Fogle was born on August 23, 1977, in Amerian city Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents Norman and Adrienne Fogle, were Jewish. So naturally, he was raised in a typical Jewish home. He was the oldest in siblings and has a younger brother and sister.
Education and Career
Being a native of Indianapolis, Fogle graduated from North Central High School in Indianapolis in 1995. then he decided to get further education. In 2000, he graduated from Indiana University and then worked for a short period in the revenue management department at American Trans Air.
Subway Campaign
Jared Fogle was an obese person who usually had 10,000 calories diet daily, But when he entered Indiana University, he decided to lose weight by eating a calories deficit diet.
Fogle diet includes a tiny turkey sub, one large veggie sub, along with some baked potato chips and diet soda, totaling about 2000 calories. By following this diet plan, Fogle lost 245 lb (111 kg) between 1998 and 1999.
His university’s former dormmate wrote an article on his transformation. It was published in the Indiana Daily Student, in which he wrote in detail how his former fat friend Fogle lost 245 lb (111 kg) by exercising and eating a diet of Subway sandwiches.
Later he was featured in a Men’s Health magazine article, “Stupid Diets … that Work!” which managed to grab the attention of local Chicago-area Subway franchisee who decided to take Fogle’s story to Subway’s Chicago-based advertising agency.
He first featured him in the first ad, which aired on January 1, 2000, introducing Fogle and his story with the following disclaimer:
“The Subway diet, combined with a lot of walking, worked for Jared. We’re not saying this is for everyone. You should check with your doctor before starting any diet program. But it worked for Jared.”
Then the rest was history; he became the part of Subway advertisement campaign, and Subway officially made him their “Official Spokesperson” from 2000 to 2015. Subway officials gave Jared credit for one-third of their sales.
Glitz and Glam of Media
This successful ad campaign landed him some other opportunities from 2002 to 2015. He gave guest appearances in many movies and Tv series and shows; for example, in 2009 and 2011, he appeared in WWE. Even he was the subject of many T.V. serials like “Community” and “South park.”
Jared Foundation
In 2004, Fogle laid the foundation of his nonprofit organization, the Jared Foundation. This organization was established to raise awareness about childhood obesity through educational programs and tools provided to parents, schools, and community organizations.
According to an article published in 2015 by “USA Today,” this foundation was just spam as it was spending $73,000 a year, with the majority of this money used to pay the salary of the foundation’s executive director and himself. So, according to nonprofit charity watchdog group CharityWatch, it was just a stunt to grab media attention.
FBI Investigation
That’s right, folk; now we will discuss the real story of how and why he vanished from the media and ended up in federal prison.
The story started when the radio host Rochelle Herman-Walrond went to the police department and filed a complaint against Jared. She told the Sarasota Police Department that he made vulgar comments about middle school-age girls during their local middle school health event meeting.
Then, on the FBI’s demand, she started recording her conversation with Jared, where our Subway guy openly talked about having had sex with underage girls and asking her to provide some photos and recordings of underage childern in exchange for money.
However, this evidence was not enough to arrest him. the story took a major turn when his name came up during Russell Taylor’s child pornography operation.
The agents found conversations of Russell Taylor, the director of Jared Foundation, with Jared where they were discussing child pornography. Upon further investigation, they realized that Jared used to buy child pornography from him in exchange for money.
On July 7, 2015, they finally raided his house in Indiana. They took his computers, laptop, and other electronic devices in custody. They also found thousands of child pornography videos and photos taken from hidden cameras and learned that he was also involved in illicit sexual activities with several minors.
Furthermore, when this whole drama became public, Subway cut ties with him officially and claimed to have no business relationship with him. After this, many televisions agency ended contracts with him and from here starts the downfall of this guy.
Plea Agreement
On August 19, 2015, the federal prosecutors finally announced officially on media that they managed to have signed a deal with Fogle. He would plead guilty on two counts. First was the distribution and possession of child pornography. The other included traveling from Indiana to New York City to engage in illicit sexual conduct with several minors.
Furthermore, he also agreed to pay $100,000 to each victim, which was $1.4 million in total.
Due to his plea agreement, his life sentence was reduced from 50 years to 13 years. On November 19, 2015, he accepted his crimes before Federal Judge Tanya Walton Pratt and apologized for his crimes.
Pratt sentenced Fogle to three more years in prison and also fined him $175,000. The Judge further ordered him to forfeit $50,000 in assets in addition to $1.4 million, which he gave to victims.
On December 14, 2015, Fogle’s lawyer, Ron Elberger, filed a notice of appeal because the Judge sentenced him more than the plea agreement.
But the U.S. Attorney’s office responded by opposing any sentence reduction as he showed the messages of Folge with a woman in which Fogle asked to provide him under age Asian girls because he carved for them. So On June 9, 2016, Fogle’s sentence was upheld by the United States Court of Appeals.
Now he is currently serving a 15-year sentence at a prison facility in Colorado.
Personal Life
He managed to hide his darker secrets and actions from people and lead a very typical American life. Jared Fogle first tied the knot with Elizabeth Christie, a pediatric nurse, on October 14, 2001. the marriage did not work for both of them, and they finally divorced on October 18, 2007.
He then starts another chapter of his personal life with Kathleen McLaughlin, a teacher by profession, and they announced their engagement in November 2009.
He again became the center of media attention when the media reported that he gained 40 pounds and planned to lose it by using the same magical Subway weight-loss program for his wedding.
Fogle and McLaughlin tied the knot in August 2010 and apparently lived a beautiful life with their two beautiful children Brady born in 2011, and Quinn, a beautiful baby girl, born in 2013.
