He is an American national and attended California College of the Arts for his education. He is known for his skills as a painter, creating murals and graphic novels.
Choe published a graphic novel titled Slow Jams in 1996. He gave away 200 copies of it at Comic-Con in 1998, hoping to attract a publisher.
In 1999, he submitted Slow Jams for the Xeric Grant. He received a $5,000 award to self-publish an expanded second edition of 1,000 copies. It was released in 1999 with a cover price of $4.
