Since Madeleine went missing in Portugal over 14 years ago, Kate and Gerry McCann have been steadfast in their hunt for their cherished daughter.
Since 2007, the pair has maintained a high public presence and fought for their daughter’s safe homecoming. Here’s a closer look at the McCanns’ current situation.
Who Are Kate And Gerry McCann?
Kate and Gerry McCann are devout Catholics who met in Glasgow in 1993.
Kate became a general practitioner after completing her medical studies at the University of Dundee, while Gerry has been a counselor cardiologist since 2005. They were married in 1998, and in 2003 they gave birth to Madeleine, their first child.
They gave birth to boy and girl twins two years later. They are living in Leicestershire’s Rothley as of 2023 with their twins.
Madeleine sadly vanished on the evening of May 3, 2007, when she was just four years old.
Despite intensive searches and investigations, Madeleine hasn’t been located, and the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are still a tragic mystery.
The Relationship Status Of Kate And Gerry McCann
Kate said their marriage almost ended after Madeleine vanished because she withdrew and distanced herself.
Reading, playing music, and even having physical relationships with her husband Gerry were among the activities she stopped doing.
The couple’s lives were severely stressed out by their fear that a pedophile kidnapped their daughter.
Kate Spoke Of The Trying Time Following Madeleine’s Disappearance
In her autobiography, Kate spoke of the trying time following Madeleine’s disappearance, when she retreated from her husband and found the idea of sex repulsive.
She feared their bond might falter and credited their fortitude and Gerry’s patience for their marriage’s endurance. The pair is still together today despite the strains of media scrutiny.
A breakthrough in the investigation was made in June 2020, when a German prisoner named Christian B was identified as the main suspect in Madeleine’s disappearance.
According to recent research, Christian B, seen nearby in a campervan, had a 30-minute phone contact one hour before Madeleine vanished. Police in Portugal identified him as an official suspect in April 2022.
The investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance, Operation Grange, started in 2011 and has already cost nearly £12 million.
The Metropolitan Police requested further funding from the Home Office in May 2019 since the search for Madeleine was ongoing.
Kate and Gerry have consistently continued the hunt for their daughter despite being “persons of interest” throughout the investigation.
Despite their unwillingness to participate in the film, a Netflix documentary on Madeleine McCann’s disappearance was published in March 2019 and brought the couple back into the public eye.
