Darren Charles Waller, born on September 13, 1992, is a professional American football tight end who currently plays for the Las Vegas Raiders in the National Football League (NFL).
He was a college football player at Georgia Tech and was prepared by the Baltimore Ravens in the 6th match of the 2015 NFL Draft. Interestingly, he is the great-grandson of Fats Waller, a well-known composer and jazz pianist.
Waller recently tied the knot with WNBA superstar Kelsey Plum in a private ceremony with their loved ones. Plum, drafted as the number one overall pick by San Antonio Stars in the 2017 WNBA Draft, became a WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces in the 2022 season.
The 28-year-old achieved her career-best performance with an average of 20.2 points, 5.1 assists, and 2.7 rebounds. She also led the league with 113 3-pointers, a single-season record.
Before her professional career, Plum played college basketball at the University of Washington, averaging 25.4 attributes per contest in 4 seasons with the Huskies. In 2017, she was named the Pac-12 and AP Player of the Year, breaking the record as the NCAA Women’s all-time leading scorer.
How did Kelsey & Darren Met?
The Las Vegas Evaluation claims that there have been speculations of Darren and Kelsey dating since 2022. On January 22, the pair applied for a marriage license and were hitched in a private ceremony attended by numerous professional athletes.
Odell Beckham Jr., an NFL free agent, and Candace Parker, a WNBA champion, left touching remarks on Plum’s Instagram story with wedding images to show their support and love.
Josh McDaniels’ Spouse Reveals Wedding Snub
On Tuesday, the NFL saw a major trade when former Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller was traded to the NY Giants. Despite just getting married 10 days prior, Waller is now moving to a new city and team. While it seemed like the trade was due to Derek Carr’s departure from LV, rumors circulated that there was more to the story.
Waller’s wife, Kelsey Plum, responded to a tweet by ESPN analyst and retired NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III, which hinted at bad blood between Waller and Raiders coach Josh McDaniel. Plum responded that McDaniels wasn’t invited to the wedding, suggesting some tensions between the coach and Waller.
Waller approached McDaniels after the coach accidentally leaked details about Waller’s wedding. It seems that Waller wanted to keep the wedding details private, and McDaniels’ mistake made it public. This may have contributed to the alleged tensions between Waller and McDaniels.
Despite this, Waller signed a three-year, $51 million extension with the Raiders last year. He has been bothered by injuries over the past two seasons but still offers the Giants a valuable target for newly signed Daniel Jones and the offense.
The Giants only had to give up a third-round pick, which came from their trade with Kansas City for Kadarius Toney, to land the premier pass-catching tight end.
