Lane Monte Kiffin, an American football coach and the Ole Miss Rebels chief coach, was born on May 9, 1975.
He previously held offensive coordinator positions for the USC Trojans football group from 2005 to 2006, head coach of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders from 2007 to 2008, college football’s University of Tennessee Volunteers head coach in 2009, and Trojans head coach from 2010 to 2013.
When the Raiders hired him, Kiffin became the league’s youngest head coach in modern history, a distinction he retained until the Rams hired Sean McVay in 2017.

He is the offspring of former NFL defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Lane Kiffin attended Fresno State University to play collegiate football after graduating from Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota in 1994.
He gave up his final year to work as position coach Jeff Tedford’s student assistant after serving as the Bulldogs’ backup quarterback.
David Carr, a teammate of Lane Kiffin’s, claims that Lane’s father, Monte Kiffin, stopped him from leaving the team because he wasn’t getting enough playing time and encouraged him to become a coach. In 1998, Lane Kiffin earned his degree from Fresno State.
Kiffin Coaching Career
After working for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL for a year as a quality control assistant, Kiffin began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Colorado State University.
Pete Carroll, the head coach at USC, subsequently hired him as tight ends coach there. In 2002, Kiffin joined USC as the wide receivers coach. In 2004, he acquired the responsibilities of passing game coordinator.
For the 2005 season, he was elevated to offensive coordinator alongside Steve Sarkisian.
Kiffin took on the role of recruiting coordinator for USC that year in addition to his responsibilities as offensive coordinator.
The 2005 USC offense, led by Kiffin and Sarkisian, set multiple school marks, such as averaging 49.1 particulars and 579 yards per game and becoming the first group in NCAA history to have a passer with 3,000 yards passing, two rushers with 1,000 yards, and a receiver with 1,000 yards.
During the following three years, Kiffin remained the recruiting coordinator, and each year, USC had the best recruiting class in NCAA football.
The Trojans produced a passer with 3,000 yards and two receivers who each had 1,000 yards in 2006, placing first in the Pac-10 for passing efficiency.
In the Rose Bowl, they defeated the University of Michigan; the team ranked third then.
Lane Kiffin Personal Life
Lane Kiffin has three children with his ex-wife Layla, a University of Florida student; Lanis, who played defensive line for Colorado State University, is his brother and the defensive line coach for the Cleveland Browns.
John Reaves, the ex-father-in-law of Kiffin, started as quarterback for the Florida Gators in college and the NFL and USFL.
Lane and Layla declared their separation and decided to get a divorce on February 28, 2016.
