Hauser attended Stevens Point Area Senior School in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where he played a significant role in helping his squad win three straight Division 1 state championships.
He distinguished himself as a junior by averaging 23.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. As a result, he was named the Wisconsin Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year and received unanimous all-state honors.
He had a season-ending ankle injury in December 2017 that required surgery and aggravated an earlier ailment. Hauser graduated from high school early the next month despite this setback.
Hauser was a highly sought-after recruit who garnered interest from several institutions, including Wisconsin and Michigan State, but decided to play basketball for Marquette in college.
He enrolled at Marquette for the spring semester of 2018 and redshirted while recovering from his ankle injury because the team had an available scholarship.
Hauser began his freshman year with a great performance in January of the following year, tallying a season-high 21 points in an 87-82 victory over Xavier.
