George Foreman was born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas. He spends his childhood in Houston’s Fifth Ward with his siblings.
He faced some tough experiences throughout his childhood and also dropped out of school at 15. He decided to join the Job Corps at 16 and earned his high school diploma. He also got training to be a carpenter and bricklayer.
It was his dream to become a boxer, and his struggles also made him an amateur. In 1968, he won the national amateur heavyweight championship and made his place in the U.S. Olympic team.
He defeated Soviet boxer Iones Chepulis and won the heavyweight gold medal at the Mexico City Olympics. In 1969, Foreman became a professional boxer and was recognized as a powerful puncher.
He won his first 37 professional fights in which 34 were knockout wins. He retired from boxing in 1977 after losing to Jimmy Young. However, he made an impressive comeback after ten years and made his name as the greatest heavy boxer.
