WNBA player and two-time Olympic gold champion Candace Parker married Shelden Williams.
They were both collegiate basketball players.
They shared both their professional highs and lows with each other. Although they had a wonderful start, their breakup was heartbreaking.
Shelden Williams: Family and Marriage
Candace Parker and Shelden Williams initially crossed paths while Parker was making a recruitment visit to Duke University.
Williams played for Duke earlier, and they have gotten along quite well.
Meanwhile, Parker chose to enroll at Tennessee State University. Notwithstanding their busy schedules, they ultimately began dating.
As the two developed their pro basketball careers, their bond got stronger. On November 13, 2008, they wed.
The Couple’s First Baby
Lailaa Nicole Williams, the couple’s first baby, was born on May 13, 2009.
Parker asked for maternity leave because her pregnancy occurred in the 2009 WNBA campaign. Consequently, she could not play in the initial 8 games of the season.
Their Separation Highlights
In 2016, both Williams and Parker parted ways after spending 8 years together.
However, Williams was the one to declare divorce in November.
The divorced couple allegedly had issues that they were unable to address.
Parker compensated Williams with almost $400k within the divorce.
Lailaa, their kid, has joined custody with 2 of them. They do not exchange child support payments.
Lailaa lives in Los Angeles, California, with her mom and her wife Anna.
