Know Your Skin Type

According to Dr. Mahto, knowing your skin type is the first step to achieving healthy skin. Understanding your skin type is key to choosing the right skincare products. Whether you have dry, oily, combination, or sensitive skin, using products that are specifically formulated for your skin type can help address your unique skincare needs.

Keep it Simple

When it comes to skincare, Dr. Mahto believes in the power of simplicity. You don’t need a 10-step skincare routine to achieve healthy skin. Using too many products can do more harm than good, leading to irritation and breakouts. Instead, focus on a simple skincare routine that’s easy to follow and effective in maintaining your skin’s health.

Instead, Dr. Mahto recommends sticking to a simple skincare routine consisting of three essential steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection. “Cleansing removes dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin, while moisturising helps keep the skin hydrated and healthy,” she explains. “And don’t forget to wear sunscreen every day to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays.”

Use Gentle, Non-Irritating Products

Dr. Mahto recommends choosing gentle, non-irritating formulas when choosing skincare products. Look for products free from harsh ingredients such as fragrances, dyes, and alcohol, which can irritate the skin. Instead, choose products specifically formulated for sensitive skin and contain soothing ingredients like ceramides, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid.

Don’t Over-Exfoliate

While exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores, Dr. Mahto warns against overexfoliating. Exfoliating too often or using harsh exfoliants can damage the skin’s natural moisture barrier, leading to irritation and sensitivity. Instead, limit exfoliation to once or twice a week and choose gentle exfoliants that won’t strip the skin.

Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise

According to Dr. Mahto, moisturising is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. “Moisturising helps keep the skin hydrated, soft, and supple,” she says. “Choose a moisturiser that is suited to your skin type, whether you have dry, oily, or combination skin, and apply it twice a day, morning and night.” One good item to employ is hydrating bath bombs that help to nourish the skin while bathing.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

According to Dr. Mahto, sun protection is essential for maintaining healthy, radiant skin. Exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays can lead to premature ageing, sunburn, and even skin cancer. That’s why it’s essential to wear sunscreen every day, even on cloudy days and during the winter months.” Dr. Mahto recommends choosing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and applying it generously to all exposed areas of the skin.

Treat Specific Skin Concerns

If you have specific skin concerns such as acne, rosacea, or hyperpigmentation, Dr. Mahto recommends seeking professional advice from a dermatologist. “A dermatologist can help diagnose your skin condition and recommend the most effective treatment options. They have the expertise and access to advanced treatments that can significantly improve your skin’s health and appearance. Whether it’s prescription medications, topical treatments, or in-office procedures, many effective options are available for treating common skin concerns,” she says.

Eat a Healthy Diet

In addition to a good skincare routine, Dr. Mahto underscores the transformative power of a healthy diet. “A balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and healthy fats can provide the vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants your skin needs to look and feel its best,” she explains. “And don’t forget to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated from the inside out.” Similarly, she highlights the rejuvenating effects of quality sleep. “Sleep is not just a luxury, it’s a necessity for healthy, glowing skin. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to wake up with refreshed, rejuvenated skin.”

Get Plenty of Sleep

Finally, Dr. Mahto recommends getting plenty of sleep for healthy, glowing skin. “Sleep is essential for skin repair and regeneration,” she says. “During sleep, your body produces collagen, which helps keep the skin firm and supple. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to wake up with refreshed, rejuvenated skin.”

Healthy, glowing skin is possible with the right skincare routine and lifestyle habits. Following Dr. Mahto’s expert tips, you can achieve the beautiful, radiant complexion you’ve always dreamed of. So why wait? Start caring for your skin today and enjoy the many benefits of healthy, glowing skin for years to come.
