Gerald Springer is an American host, journalist, actor, lawyer, and politician. He was born in Britain and was commonly known as Jerry Springer.
Jerry was born in Highgate tube station, London, UK, on Feb 13, 1944. After completing political science and law studies at university, he commenced his career in politics.
He served as the 56th Mayor of Cincinnati between 1977 to 1978. However, after a bad try to become governor of Ohio, he transitioned to a profession in TV journalism.
However, to increase viewership, he drastically changed the show’s focus to more sensational and scandalous content after a few years.
Springer called the show “escapist entertainment,” but critics thought it made TV dumber and hurt society’s values.
In the late 1990s, it surpassed even Oprah and became the US’s most popular daytime television show. Afterward, the Jerry Springer Show stopped airing because people stopped watching it.
