Aiden Fucci, a 16-year-old charged with murder in connection to the 2021 killing of his classmate, Tristyn Bailey, is currently undergoing a sentencing hearing as an adult. His parents, Crystal Smith and Jason Fucci are also involved in the case.
Who Are Crystal Smith & Jason Fucci, Aiden Fucci’s Parents?
Crystal Smith, the mother of Aiden Fucci, was arrested on June 5, 2022, by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly tampering with evidence.
She turned herself into a cop. According to an arrest warrant cited by WJXT, Crystal was seen on surveillance video washing her son’s jeans in her home after investigators questioned him. The jeans were later found to contain blood and were confiscated by officers.
In August 2021, the Florida State Attorney’s Office released Snapchat videos of Aiden in the back of a patrol car, where he made remarks about being arrested. Additionally, Aiden’s father, Jason Fucci, has a history of legal troubles.
What Happened In 2003?
In 2003, he was accused of child abuse, injury, and neglect, and in October of the same year, he was arrested for engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl at his home.
In 2004, Jason was found guilty of the child abuse charges and sentenced to one year and two months in prison, as well as being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity and given two years of probation.
In 2016, he was arrested for battery after getting into a fight at a gas station while his son was present. Whether Fucci’s childhood experiences will be raised in his defense remains to be seen.
How Long Will Aiden Fucci Be Behind Bars?
Aiden Fucci, who was charged as an adult for the murder of Tristyn Bailey, a 13-year-old, was sentenced on March 21, 2023.
The decision to accuse Fucci of first-degree murder was made by a grand jury, which convened in secret on May 27, 2021.
If Fucci is sentenced to life in prison, he will be eligible for a review when he reaches 25 years, given that he was a minor at the moment of the crime and sentencing. Additionally, Fucci will receive certain accommodations or benefits due to his age.
During a press conference on May 27, the State Attorney described the decision to charge Fucci as an adult as a “sad, but not difficult” one.
In February 2023, Fucci changed his plea to guilty of first-degree slaying and consistently apologized in court, saying, “I’m sorry for the Bailey family and my family.”
