On Tuesday, war correspondent Benjamin Hall spoke about the Russian attack that almost took his life last year, stating that the first anniversary had been more challenging than he expected but that “life goes on.”
Speaking on Fox News’ America’s Newsroom, Hall explained how he had to wake himself up that morning to remember what day it was and how he had to find the strength to move forward.
On March 14, 2022, Hall was traveling in Ukraine with Fox News cameraman Pierre Zakrzewski, 55, and local journalist Sasha Kuvshynova, 24, when three Russian projectiles hit their vehicle.
Hall was the only survivor of the attack. In his new memoir, Saved: A War Reporter’s Mission to Make It Home, Hall recounts his grueling journey to recovery, which involved 30 surgeries and the loss of a leg, a foot, a function in hand, and an eye.
While Hall thought the first year would be about recovery, he said the process is ongoing. “Every day is difficult,” he said.
“There’s still that slight moment where you realize you can’t jump out of bed anymore, your legs aren’t there,” Hall explained that he has to go through many procedures in the morning, which is now a part of his daily routine.
