Vincent Kartheiser, or Peter Kartheiser, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to parents Janet Marie (née Gruyé), who owned a nursery, and James Ralph Kartheiser, who worked in construction equipment sales.
He was the youngest of six siblings, with 4 sisters, Andrea, Colette, Elise, and Theresa, and a brother, Nathan.
Kartheiser’s heritage is a mix of Luxembourgish, German, Polish, Finnish, and Swedish ancestry.
Despite his young age, he left Apple Valley High School in Minnesota at 15, hoping to earn an income.
Peter Kartheiser’s Career
Peter Kartheiser got his start in acting through his performances on the stage of the Children’s Theatre Company in Minneapolis.
He portrayed characters in productions such as Pippi Longstocking, Our Town, The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins by Dr. Seuss, and Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.
His on-screen acting career began with a minor role in the film Untamed Heart in 1993. He then acted in family-friendly movies such as The Indian inside the Cupboard (1995) and Alaska (1996), where he secured the lead role.
This success led to him being cast as the lead in the film Masterminds the following year.
In 1998, Kartheiser took on a challenging role as Bobby, a homeless drug addict, in Larry Clark’s movie Another Day in Paradise.

They tied the knot in California the following year in June 2014 and welcomed their son in 2015. In 2016, they sold their Brooklyn duplex penthouse for 1.32 million dollars.
However, their marriage ended in 2022 when Kartheiser filed for divorce, officially finalized on August 26th.
