Who Are Gwen Shamblin Kids?
Gwen was a resident of Memphis, Tennessee, and married her first husband, David Shamblin, in 1978. The couple was together for 40 years and had two children, Michael and Elizabeth.
Following her divorce from David, Gwen married actor Joe Lara. Michael, her son, is a talented Christian and rock musician who made his debut in 2011 with the single “Keep Your Guard Up.”
He has since released four albums and has written musicals for the church and Gwen’s workshops. Michael has four children with his former wife, Erin Frisby Shamblin.
After Gwen’s passing, Michael took over a leadership role at the Remnant Fellowship, a church where Gwen was a member.
Elizabeth, Gwen’s daughter, was a well-known youth leader in Remnant Fellowship in her early years. She married Brandon Hannah in 2003 and had four children, Grace, Gweneth, Gloria, and Charles Grantham.
Unfortunately, Brandon died in a plane crash on May 29, 2021, which also claimed the lives of Gwen and Joe Lara.
After this tragedy, Elizabeth turned to her religious faith for comfort and took over the late diet guru’s leadership responsibilities in the church.

Where Is Michael Now?
Michael, Gwen’s son, initially became a leader at the Remnant Fellowship but ended his association with the church in 2022. He separated from his wife Erin around the same time and now resides in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Former church members say that he left the church multiple times to pursue an independent music career and felt trapped by his responsibilities to the church.
He now goes by Michael S. Black and prefers to live a private life with zero presence on social media. In October 2022, he released a song called “Down” to share his experiences with loss.
Where Is Elizabeth Shamblin Now?
Elizabeth, Gwen’s daughter, lives with her four children in Brentwood and is close to her father and former sister-in-law.
She is an active leader at the Remnant Fellowship and continues to spread the church’s teachings. She aims to carry on her mother’s legacy and help people develop a relationship with God.
In addition to her leadership responsibilities, Elizabeth is also a hands-on mother and is dedicated to giving her children a good Christian upbringing, fulfilling her husband’s dreams.

Jennifer Grey stars in a new Lifetime docudrama “Gwen Shamblin: Starving for Salvation” about Gwen Shamblin, the founder of the controversial Remnant Fellowship Church and Christian diet guru.
Grey was initially unfamiliar with Shamblin but was drawn to the project after watching HBO’s series “The Way Down: God, Greed, and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin.”
The film follows Shamblin’s life over 20 years, from the publication of her best-selling book, “The Weigh Down Diet,” to the establishment of her empire in Tennessee, where she was seen as a prophet by her followers.
Grey portrays Shamblin as lacking empathy and using her faith to control and shame her followers. Shamblin’s public persona, including her distinctive hairstyle, is depicted in the film, along with her eventual decline in health and stability.
Shamblin’s life ended in a plane crash in May 2021, killing her, her husband, and several other church leaders.
