Bo Derek shot to fame with her breakthrough role in the romantic comedy “10” in 1979, where she portrayed Jenny, a young woman being chased by an older man, Dudley Moore.
The iconic beach scene featuring Derek in a beige one-piece swimsuit and braided cornrow hairstyle is still remembered today.
Over four decades have passed since “10,” Derek has transformed her roles and style. Although she doesn’t act as frequently as she used to, she still takes on occasional projects.
Apart from “10,” Derek is well-known for her roles in films like “A Change of Seasons,” “Fantasies,” and “Bolero,” all from the 1980s.
She has also appeared in several TV movies, including “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” in 2015, “The Last Sharknado: It’s About Time” in 2018, “5 Weddings” and “The Christmas Trap” in 2018, and the Hallmark movie “JL Family Ranch: The Wedding Gift” in 2020. At 65 years old, Derek continues to leave her mark on the entertainment industry.
In 2020, Bo Derek unveiled her highly anticipated autobiographical documentary, “Bo Derek: In My Own Words.”
This captivating film delves into the life and illustrious career of the star, including her iconic breakthrough role in the 1979 romantic comedy, “10,” and her widely known roles in the 1980s films “A Change of Seasons,” “Fantasies,” and “Bolero.”
Additionally, it offers a glimpse into her controversial relationship with actor and director John Derek, whom she met when she was just 16, and he was 46.
Derek Shared Her Candid Thoughts
In an interview, Derek shared her candid thoughts on the documentary, saying, “I’ve always been honest, and I thought people would be tired of hearing those stories, but it seems there are three more generations of movie-goers now, and some of these stories might be new to them. It’s very strange.”
Bo Derek’s life took a new turn when she lost her first husband in 1998 and later started a relationship with actor John Corbett in 2002.
The couple was together for 18 years before tying the knot in 2020, despite Derek previously stating that marriage wasn’t a priority for them.
“Having children and creating a new family unit was not part of their plan; thus, the paper symbolizing marriage held little significance.”
However, a few months later, they exchanged vows and made their union official. In an interview, Corbett revealed, “After 20 years of being together, we thought it was time to make it official and tie the knot. 2020 was challenging for everyone, but we wanted at least one positive thing to reflect on from this year.”
