Sydney McLaughlin is a gold medalist in the women’s 400m hurdles at Tokyo Olympics. She crossed the finish line in about 50.68 seconds, whereas Delilah Mohamed finished in 51.44 seconds.
Sydney was born into an athletic family on 7th August 1999 in Dunellen, New Jersey. So we can calculate that she’s about 23 years old.
Yes, it’s hard for us to believe that she is this young – so talented and successful. But this is how it is! Sydney is a successful, passionate young girl and a young world record holder. It seems as if her success runs as fast as she does.
Early Life Of The Little Runner
Sydney was born a racer, as she was born in an athlete family. As mentioned earlier, the winner Sydney was born on 7th August 1999, in Dunellen, New Jersey. She is 23 years old and more successful than an old man.
The girl herself says,
I knew the race would be fast, but I didn’t think it would be that fast. I am this young, and I have learned so much.
Her father was a semifinalist in the 400 meters race at the 1984 Olympic Trials. Whereas her mother, Mary was a high school runner, she could not continue running due to a lack of opportunities.
The Runners Family
Sydney is the daughter of Mary, who was a runner at high school. Mommy Mary could run half-mile in 2:12 at Cardinal O’Hara High School.
Her mother used to run in the boy’s team as there was no girls’ team then. She was so obsessed with her passion that she decided to be the track manager of the boys’ team.
Willie, her father, was also an athlete who ran and reached the world on 13th February 1963 in New Jersey, United States. Her Father has been running since high school and was a semifinalist in the 400 m Olympics trial in 1984.
Running was a gift to him, as it saved his life. Willie was a heart patient as he was born with a heart condition called hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a genetic heart defect).
Dut to which one day his heart stopped pumping his blood, before Sydney’s Tokyo Olympics and he had to transplant his heart and could not cheer his girl from the crowd, rather they cheered her from home sitting on the couch and shouting, giving instructions to the young runner as she could hear them. Once again, she made her parents proud.
Athletes gave birth to athletes. Her parents had three more runners who followed in their parent’s footsteps.
Sydney’s older sister Morgan ran for St. Peter University. Later she gave it up and started running behind the art. She joined Middlesex College and is currently working as a recreational assistant at Parker Life org.
Her elder brother Taylor McLaughlin also won a medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. This runner boy has won a number of awards; he has also competed in the IAAF World under-20 championship and received a silver medal. He is currently running behind robots as a mechanical engineer.
Her youngest brother Ryan is also inspired by his siblings and parents and competed in the 110 m hurdles track. He is only 21 years old, as he was born in the year 2001. The little boy Ryan has also run in a number of other 4×400 meter races.
If they had a pet, he would also be a runner. Among her family, Sydney is above all and has won many medals and awards. Counting her awards and achievements is like counting the stars in the sky. Let us discuss more of her achievements.
She started running internationally at the age of 16, but she dreamt of it when she was only 8. She began running the moment she was born and was initially coached by her runner parents.
At the age of six, when normal kids struggle to identify alphabets, this girl was running 100 meters for a chocolate bar.
Her parents used to tempt her to get a chocolate bar if she would finish first in a local 100m race. And guess what? She did it!
Practicing was her routine work. She became an Olympian at the age of 16 and won the national prep record. Later in 2018, she bashed the high school record as a Kentucky freshman, which led to her NCAA title.
Let us make an imperfect try to count her achievements and see if we can or not. She stood first in her World Championships (2022) and performed her 400m and 4×400 m relay.
She also received the first prize for her Tokyo Olympic Games (2021). She also stood first in her world championships in Doha and performed a 4×400 meter relay.
She also managed to stay in the first position in the World Youth Championship in Cali, Colombia. She remained at the top in her NSAF Nationals 2014 in 400m hurdles.
As I said earlier, counting her achievements is like counting the sand particle on the beach. Impossible!
It seems to me as if she is Double her age. It is a sign of success that the record breaker begins breaking her own records.
The runner broke her record of running 400 m. her record, which she broke, was completing 400 m in 51.14 seconds, her new record in 50.8 seconds.
After being successful, she wants to raise awareness about her sports. And want to provide more opportunities to the new runners.
I’ve gotten to a place where I’m more comfortable with myself and what I’ve accomplished and where I do want to speak on behalf of athletes and be able to draw people more into our sport and make it a wide-stream thing.
Runner Girl or A Writer?
Despite of her young age, the passion of a runner is not only limited to sprints and hurdles; instead, she is also a writer.
Supporters of the sport received another surprise from the runner lady, who said that she is also interested in writing, as when she is not running, she is writing. Outside the track, she loves to read books and watch movies.
She likes to travel around places that are far away from her home destinations. The lover lady also enjoys watching movies with her husband.
Now the fans are confused about how she can sit on the same couch for hours or watches the movies in fast-forward mode. In short, she has proven herself in many fields at the age of 23 only!
The runner girl said writing gives me relief, and it makes me release all my stress. Be it any social media or anywhere. Sydney basically wants to express herself. It’s a kind of opportunity to know more about yourself.
Her Love Life with Andre Levrone
She is a sportswoman, and being a record-setter doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have a heart. Obviously, she has emotions too. Let’s dig into her love life.
As we know that she had been very busy reaching her finish line, and falling in love is a bit hard for such ambitious people. But our girl Sydney fell for Andre Levrone jr., who is a former NFL player. He left playing and invested in the real estate business.
The Groom praised her wife and said, His wife is
Down to earth, she’s cool, she’s not super materialistic. I was like, ‘This is the type of woman I want to be with.
The young couple was so in love that they had made up their minds just some days after meeting each other. They were so fastly in love and wanted to get married as reaching the ribbon.
They decided the wedding to be intimate and simple. Therefore soon after being engaged in August 2021, they decided to get married in April of 2022.
We’ve been waiting for this day for a very long time, so just excited that it’s finally here and we can say we’re married
Sydney McLaughlin Net Worth
The runner lady is well off, independent, and a lucky one. She has earned herself a net worth of $2 million at such a young age.
She has the tendency to make her parents proud at every step. Indeed Sydney and Andre love each other a lot, and they are living a complete and comfortable life.
They can help and support each other and their families when in need. The best part of this family is that they support each other, which is the best fortune.
As the tree, so the fruit is a proverb that is an exact fit for this family. Parents who are obsessed with the running track, obviously, their children are also in love with it. Parents make their children learn from their parent’s mistakes.
The parents are said to create the base of the building, and the children then build a building over it.
The same is the case with this little girl Sydney, despite her small age she has achieved a lot in life.
At the age when the children are busy with their love affairs, she has proved herself. From the age of 6, she has been running and making her parents proud!
