Dominic Holland, born on May 6th, 1967, in Brent, Middlesex, England, attended Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School and later Leeds University, where he met his wife, Nicola Frost. The couple has four children together, including their son Tom Holland.
Dominic began his career in comedy after realizing his talent for making people laugh. He won the Perrier Best Newcomer award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1993 and made numerous appearances on television shows such as The Clive James Show and The Brian Conley Show.
He also had his radio shows, The Small World of Dominic Holland and Holland’s Shorts, on BBC Radio 4. In addition to his comedic work, he has tried acting and writing, with several film appearances and three novels to his name. He also wrote for The Guardian for two years.
Dominic Did Not Anticipate Tom’s Career To Soar As It Did
Holland’s career began in theatre, but he quickly transitioned to film and gained fame for his leading role in the 2012 film, The Impossible. His father, Dominic, was surprised at how fast Tom succeeded without formal drama training.
Tom was discovered by chance at a local dance class and went on to perform in the West End before making successful films. Dominic called his son’s career a “total fluke.”

Dominic spent a significant part of his career pursuing his dream of making it big in Hollywood, but his efforts never took him beyond the borders of the United Kingdom. His son, on the other hand, achieved what Dominic couldn’t before turning 18.
After Tom’s breakthrough performance in The Impossible, Dominic wrote a book titled How Tom Holland Eclipsed His Dad and op-eds for The Daily Mail and The Independent about Tom’s success.
In The Independent, he shared further insights on Tom’s achievements: “My eldest son, Tom, is now 16 and the unwitting star of a unique family story.
A story about how a kid danced his way to Hollywood via the West End and overtook his ‘celebrity’ dad on his way. I am the ‘celebrity’ dad. A somewhat famous comedian, author, and general wit for hire.”
Although Dominic anticipated his sons would surpass him, he didn’t expect Tom to do it at such a young age. Despite wishing for more success, he remained supportive of his sons.

Nikki Holland, a professional photographer, studied design at Leeds University and has worked in the field for over twenty years. Her work was featured in Tom’s 2013 film, How I Live Now, and her website showcases some of her best photos.
Tom Acknowledges His Parents’ Role In Keeping Him In Line
Tom credits his parents for keeping him grounded in the entertainment industry. Despite his success after The Impossible, Tom values his parents’ honesty and ability to say “no.”
He feels grateful that they’ve kept him grounded, saying, “My parents have chained me to the floor!” Tom maintains a close relationship with his parents and lives just five minutes away, despite originally planning to move to L.A.

Tom Holland’s role in Cherry sees him play an army medic who struggles with PTSD and addiction. Director Joe Russo had promised a horror element in the film, which was apparent in a clip Tom sent home to his mother, Nikki.
