Henry Jaynes Fonda was an American actor whose career spanned five decades on Broadway and in Hollywood.
He gained popularity with his everyman screen image in several classic films. Fonda was born and raised in Nebraska and made his impact early as a Broadway actor.
He made his Hollywood film debut in 1935 and rose to stardom with performances in Jezebel, Jesse James, and Young Mr. Lincoln.
Fonda’s career continued to progress with his portrayal of Tom in The Grapes of Wrath (1940), for which he achieved a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
He starred in the screwball comedy classic The Lady Eve (1941) opposite Barbara Stanwyck, and he played the lead role in 2 regarded Westerns, The Ox-Bow Incident and My Darling Clementine, directed by John Ford. Fonda also starred in Ford’s Western Fort Apache (1948).
After a 7-year break from films during which Fonda focused on stage productions, he returned to Hollywood with the WWII war-boat ensemble Mister Roberts (1955).
He played the role of the 38-year-old Manny Balestrero in Alfred’s thriller The Wrong Man (1956) at the age of fifty-one.
He also starred as Juror 8, the hold-out juror, in 12 Angry Men (1957), which he co-produced and for which he earned the BAFTA Prize for Best Foreign Actor.
Later in his Profession, Fonda moved into roles such as the villain in the epic Once Upon a Time in the West, now Known as one of the best Westerns ever.

Fonda won the Award for Best Actor at the 54th Awards for his final movie role in On Golden Pond (1981), starring Katharine Hepburn and his daughter Jane Fonda. He was too ill to attend the ceremony and died a few months later from heart disease.

Jane Fonda’s Mother, Frances Ford Seymour Fonda
Frances Ford Seymour Fonda (Apr 4, 1908 – Apr 14, 1950) was a Canadian-American socialite who became the second spouse of actor Henry Fonda and the mother of actors Jane and Peter. She was born to Sophie (née Bower) and Eugene Seymour in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
Seymour’s daughter Jane Fonda revealed that her mother was a victim of repeated sexual abuse as a child and underwent nine abortions during her lifetime.
On Jan 10, 1931, Seymour married George Tuttle Brokaw, a millionaire lawyer, and sportsman, with whom she had a daughter named Frances de Villers “Pan” Brokaw.
After Brokaw’s death, Seymour met Henry Fonda on the location of the film Wings of the Morning at Denham Studios in England, and they got married on Sept 16, 1936, at Christ Church in New York City.
They had two children, Jane and Peter, but their marriage was troubled, and Henry asked for a divorce three and a half months before Seymour’s suicide.
Seymour died while she was a patient at the Craig house in Beacon, NY, and she is buried in Ogdensburg Cemetery, Ogdensburg, NY.
