Robbie Montgomery is an American entrepreneur and former backup singer whose net worth is $12 million per celebritynetworth. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Montgomery began her career in the 1960s as an Ikette, providing backing vocals for the legendary Ike & Tina Turner.
She also worked as a backup singer for notable artists, such as The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, and James Brown, until a collapsed lung forced her to abandon her singing career.
Montgomery later opened a restaurant called “Sweetie Pie’s” in St. Louis, where she served her family’s soul food recipes passed down through generations. The restaurant quickly gained popularity and has since expanded to two additional locations.
In 2011, the Oprah Winfrey Network launched a reality series called “Welcome to Sweetie Pie’s,” which follows Montgomery and her son, Tim, her business partner, as they prepare to open a third location and navigate their personal lives.
Although Montgomery has never been married and is still looking for love at 71, her son has recently become a father and is learning about the joys and challenges of parenthood.
Career
Robbie’s love for music was evident from an early age when she attended Curtis Elementary School in St. Louis. She frequently participated in school talent shows and sang in the choir.
After graduating from Pruitt High School, Montgomery pursued a career in music and joined the Chordrettes, a group that later changed its name to the Rhythemettes and then the Ardrettes.
In 1959, Robbie got to sing as a backup vocalist for Ike and Tina Turner’s song “Fool in Love,” and subsequently became a member of the Ikettes. After seven years with the group, she left to sing backup for The Beatles.
Robbie started two groups, Robbie Special Kinds and Robbie’s Dangerous Curves, and worked on commercial jingles.
However, after experiencing a collapsed lung and being diagnosed with asthma, Montgomery was forced to quit singing. Despite this setback, she later succeeded as an entrepreneur and restauranteur with her popular “Sweetie Pie’s” chain of soul food restaurants.
After starting dialysis, Robbie’s finances were strained. Sweetie Pie’s Restaurant quickly gained popularity and greatly increased Robbie’s net worth.
Despite her public success, little is known about Robbie Montgomery’s personal life. Unfortunately, her one son died. Robbie has stated that her son was an inspiration for opening her restaurant.
Even in her 70s, she has never married, and the fathers of her children remain unknown to the public. Despite this, she still holds out hope for finding love and continues to manage her restaurant business while residing in St. Louis.
